The Urbanathalon is an event that will be taking place in Chicago this fall. This event is a combination of runnning and obstacle courses, click here to see the course map. The race course is approximately 11.76 miles long and you can either choose to do it as a single event or as a 3 person relay team. The obstacle course is a combination of doing a tire run, monkey bars, marine hurdles, taxi hurdles and climbing stairs at Soldier Field.
This event will test your physical ability to do multiple activites, but it is not the only reason that I want to rally a group of people for this event.
As this event was mentioned to me, I instantly wanted to be involved I mean come on.. getting to run the stairs at Soldier Field, hurdling some taxi’s and a slew of other events that make it more than just a running race. I believe that it will test my physically as well as be a ton of fun, but I don’t want to go through the training, time, and effort just to run a race. This lead me to begin dreaming about what this could mean for me… and here is what I came up with.
THE DREAM
I want to grab a team of 20+ racers and 20+ volunteers that will have a focus on having a fun event while racing and raising money for cancer research. Cancer has personally affected my family by taking the life of my grandmother (breast cancer & brain tumor) and my uncle; as well as many friends who have also battled the disease. Lately, this topic has weighed heavy on my mind and i am CONSTANTLY trying to find a way to rally people to help with the cause.
The race is developed to help the Challenged Athletes Foundation and I am working to find out how our goal of cancer research can be coupled with the goal of the race itself.
Knowing that not everyone can or has the desire to run in the race, I want to find people who will come along side our team to serve in volunteer roles at the race. This is a support role that will be part of our team, yet also to serve in various functions for the race organization. Each role is HIGHLY vital to support the main goal of the cancer research team.

Racers will have the chance to race the 11.76 miles on their own or to develop a team of 3 racers to do a relay which runs at about 3-4 miles each with an obstacle component as part of their leg of the race.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Determine your place on the team: Racer, Race Volunteer, Support Team, Administrative Team, and/or Fundraiser Team
***in the coming weeks i will define each of the roles of the different teams.
Dream with us on how to grow this from a thought in one persons mind to a movement of people who desire to make an impact. Could this lead to a website? A community of people around one mission from many states? It is a blank whiteboard that is looking for impactful marks
If you want to jump on one of the teams, feel free to e-mail me and we’ll get it rolling.
Stay Tuned for more information as this develops!! I’d also love to hear feedback from you!!!
